Another season for Outlook's community garden

Following a bountiful harvest in its inaugural season, the Outlook Community Garden is well on its way for more of the same this year.

Following a bountiful harvest in its inaugural season, the Outlook Community Garden is well on its way for more of the same this year.

In just over 90 minutes the morning of May 19, a group of volunteers planted corn, pole beans, bush beans, onions and carrots. A few days later tomatoes and peppers were added, as well as fencing around the entire plot.

Headed up once again by Connie Achtymichuk and Garth Weiterman, the effort is looking to build on last year’s successes, as well as looking at ways to increase community participation in addition to finding smoother ways to distribute the produce to those who need it.

The strong winds as of late have been challenging. Weiterman remarked, “Connie, Maureen (Weiterman) and I completed transplanting tomatoes and peppers—just in time for another wind-whipped day. Now we need a good rain!”

Once the rows are established the committee will start putting out calls for volunteers to do some weeding. The goal is a true community effort so if you would like to learn more please contact outlook.community.garden@gmail.com.
