Daycare Hosts Open House Family Event

Artwork, entertainment enjoyed during special afternoon

A special open house event put on by the Small Steps Early Learning Centre in Outlook put a spotlight on what young kids have been learning and how they’ve been spending their time at the facility.

Held on Sunday afternoon, September 9, the open house allowed families to visit Small Steps and take part in the kind of daily activities that their kids enjoy, as well as check out some of the eye-catching artwork kids had created that was being sold at auction.

Along with snacks and refreshments, perhaps the pinnacle of the afternoon came when Sylvia Chave, a long-time children’s songwriter and entertainer, put on a concert to a packed room of kids and families, getting the kids up and about with some exercise through song and even having staff take part in the sing-along festivities.

Chave also left CDs of her music for the daycare to sell, and a portion of the profits will go towards bringing more musical opportunities into the classrooms.

The hard work of the staff at Small Steps ensured that the open house event ran smoothly, and director Melanie Gamble took to social media to share her thoughts on the day.

“What a great day! I really am impressed with the turn out.  I wish we would have done a head count at the door. Thank you to all of the families who came out today!

Thank you to the board members for coming in to help and thanks also to the volunteers from RBC for serving the hotdogs, veggies and Shealyn’s awesome Monster Cookies.

Sylvia Chave did an awesome job entertaining and engaging the audience....both young and old!

We had numerous compliments on the children’s art which we were so lucky to have Janet Akre come in with her supplies and expertise!”
