Today’s youth are vulnerable and building relationships with this them is important. So give them a ticket? Outlook High School is partnering with the Outlook RCMP to ticket our youth. But it's not the kind of ticket you're thinking of….it's a Positive Ticket.
“Stop in the name of the law! What are you doing? Wearing your seatbelt? Riding your bike with a helmet? You deserve a ticket; a positive ticket, that is. Here are some passes to the movie theatre.”
Not your typical interaction between the police and youth, but we are looking to change that. Outlook High School and the Outlook RCMP are kicking off an innovative program called “Positive Ticketing” where the local RCMP Detachment rewards youth for positive behavior. While rewarding youth they are also building relationships with them and making themselves more accessible. We want our youth to be able to interact with, request information and support from and connect with local RCMP members. The ticket is the gateway to building these relationships.
Through this program, uniformed RCMP officers will have positive tickets that they can hand out to youth under the age of 18 that are “caught doing something good.” The youth can redeem those tickets for free access to the swimming pool, movie theatre, bowling alley and local business in the area (ie – slush, subs, pizza). Two-fold really, building relationships with RCMP, and youth are given passes to take part in positive activities in their community. At the end of the year, all tickets will be placed in a draw and a bigger prize will be rewarded (mountain bike).
As the new Positive Ticket Program will be run by fundraising and donations, we are gratefully asking community organizations to consider donating funding/coupons for this beneficial program.
