RCMP say that a lone adult male was taken into custody at approximately midnight on Thursday, January 7 after it was reported that he was making threats online.

According to a media release, the man had barricaded himself inside a residence in the village of Dinsmore with weapons.  The residence appears to have been located on Dinsmore’s Railway Avenue.

The incident began at roughly 4:15 pm on January 6, kickstarting an intense multi-hour standoff between the man and police.  Heavily armored police vehicles were seen in the community and eyewitnesses also reported seeing a drone in the area.  The RCMP issued a public alert close to 9:30 that night that said people were to avoid the area and that they would notice an “increased presence of officers.”  It also noted that the area was contained and there was no threat to surrounding residents.
