New Swimming Pool Open for Canada Day

Lessons to also begin on July 1st

There’s no word just yet on any grand opening event for the new swimming pool facility in Outlook, but folks can be assured that it’ll be open for business to enjoy this coming Monday for Canada Day celebrations.

Swimming opportunities will start on July 1st.  Lessons will be from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and then public swimming from 1:30 - 3:30, 4:00 - 6:00, and 6:30 - 8:30.  This swim will cost a toonie each, and people are encouraged to swim for their two hours and take in the rest of Canada Day festivities so that other families can also enjoy the pool!

A few minor deficiencies were being worked on last week over at the Van Raay & Community Swimming Pool on the Rec Plex grounds.  After that, staff training was set to be provided for the pool’s operations.  In addition to a part-time pool labourer (second one being sought), there are seven lifeguards and two junior lifeguards that have been hired by the Town, as well as a part-time lifeguard instructor, and all those positions carried anticipated start dates of July 1.

Acting Administrator Rachel Sillers noted in an email to this reporter that while the pool will be open for Canada Day festivities, it remains to be seen if that date will mark the official grand opening.  It’s possible that July 1 will be considered the pool’s “soft open” and that a grand opening celebration may be held at a later date when the pool committee and notable donors can be in attendance.

Stay tuned to our official website at TheOutlook.ca for any further updates on the pool, and in the meantime, enjoy it this coming Canada Day!
