Outlook & Area Celebrate Canada Day!

Canadians of all backgrounds mark 151st birthday bash

O Canada!

The weather may have been mixed at some points, but that didn’t prevent the Canada Day celebrations in Outlook from being derailed on July 1.

A large crowd came out for the parade that began at 1:00, with people bringing lawn chairs and staking out their spots to take in the festivities.  With a steady stream of vehicles and floats, the parade seemed to have something for every person of every age, with kids making sure to comb the streets and sidewalks for the candy and toys that were tossed over.

The celebrations continued at the Jim Kook Rec Plex grounds behind the ball diamonds, where the Outlook Multi-Cultural Group held a fair, complete with games from different ethnic backgrounds and a multitude of flags flying high above everyone, representing the diversity within the community.

Donna Smith of Outlook’s town council led everyone in a Canadian citizen reaffirmation ceremony before everyone joined in on ‘O Canada’.  Mayor Ross Derdall and local MLA Greg Brkich wished everyone well in their Canada Day celebrating before Justin & Amber Turton helped serve up some delicious cake.

As well, all day at the ball diamonds was a tournament put on by the Outlook Ice Hawks for those wanting to take in some sports action.

Meanwhile, down in the village of Elbow, the ever-popular annual fish fry at the rink served up hundreds of meals to a massive hungry crowd before a street dance on a sectioned-off part of Saskatchewan Street brought out a crowd who came to take in the live music of “oooo la la”.

Back in Outlook, a fantastic fireworks display capped this year’s Canada Day bash; a day of celebrating what it means to live in this great country and be proud of where we call home.
