Potato Festival in Outlook Officially a Go

First-of-its-kind event slated to take place this August

If you’re already making tentative plans for the long weekend in August, you might be interested in keeping Outlook in mind for an event that’s the first of its kind in the community.

The town’s first-ever Potato Festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 1.

The unique ‘spud celebration’ will put a spotlight on a vegetable found nightly on virtually everyone’s dinner plate in one form or another and highlight both its importance to the local economy and historical significance in Outlook.

Donna Smith, a councillor with the Town of Outlook, organized a meeting on Monday evening, February 10 at the town offices building that saw seven people attend in order to begin the process of planning the Festival.

Smith noted that the day will begin with a potato pancake breakfast and continue with entertainment, games, contests, an evening supper, and of course, “the mighty potato in all forms!”

There may also be a possible trade show aspect to the event, specifically for potato producers in the Outlook area.

Right now, the committee is looking for individuals who can help with the following:

  • Starting a website for the Festival
  • Designing an official logo
  • Maintaining a Facebook page
  • Press & Advertising

The committee’s next meeting, open to all who are interested, is set for Thursday, February 27 at 7:00pm in the art gallery of the town offices building.
