Football Preview: Bisons Games, No OHS Team

New school year means new six-man season

With students back in classrooms, it’s also another year of athletics at local schools, and one of the sports that always kicks off at the same time as the new school year is football.

Unfortunately, there’ll only be one team from Outlook taking to the field this season.  While the LCBI Bisons will be suiting up in the maroon & gold, the Outlook Blues will be sitting out the senior football program this year.

Outlook High School Principal Walter Wood said it came down to low numbers as far as putting together a senior team for this season, but there will still be a Blues junior team honing their skills on the field.

“The primary reason is that we did not have the numbers to field a team,” said Wood.  “When Lloyd was asking our students who was interested and committed to playing football this fall, he only had about 8 players that were committed to playing.  Lloyd then checked some of the schools in the area to see if we could form a co-op with their program, but that wasn't successful either.  As a result, we won't have a senior football team this year.  There will still be a junior team.  We have almost 200 students from Grade 6 to Grade 9 this year, so we anticipate that we will have a good number of students participate in the junior program.”

While fans of the Blues senior team may be missing out this year, the LCBI Bisons are getting things started with their first home game of the year this coming Friday afternoon.  The rest of the team’s schedule is as follows:

Friday, September 7 – Hanley @ LCBI
Friday, September 14 – Gull Lake @ LCBI
Friday, September 21 – LCBI @ Hanley
Friday, September 28 – LCBI @ Gull Lake
Thursday, October 4 – LCBI @ Central Butte
Friday, October 12 – Central Butte @ LCBI

All games are scheduled to start at 4:00.
